Our Confession

What We Believe

An open Bible resting on the pulpit
  • A Carefully Tested Confession

Every church believes something. The question is not whether a church has a confession, but whether that confession has been carefully tested by Scripture and faithfully handed down through the church.

  • The Westminster Standards

At Redeemer, we do not write our own statement of faith. Instead, we gladly confess the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. These historic standards were produced by the Westminster Assembly in the 1640s through careful study of God's Word and have served as the doctrinal foundation of Presbyterian and Reformed churches for nearly four centuries.

  • Scripture Is the Final Authority

We subscribe to these standards because we believe they faithfully summarize the teaching of Scripture. They are not equal to the Bible, nor do they replace it. Scripture alone is the inspired, infallible, and final authority for faith and life. The Westminster Standards are valuable because they help us understand, teach, and defend what the Bible itself declares.

  • Receiving and Preserving the Truth

Why not write a new confession? Because we believe the church is called to receive and faithfully preserve the truth God has entrusted to His people. Every generation must study the Scriptures for itself, but no generation begins with a blank page. We are grateful for the careful work of faithful pastors and theologians who have gone before us, and we gladly stand within that historic confession of the Christian faith.

  • The Whole Counsel of God

The Westminster Standards address the whole counsel of God. They summarize the Bible's teaching on the authority of Scripture, the character of God, the person and work of Christ, salvation by grace alone through faith alone, the Christian life, the church, the sacraments, and the hope of Christ's return. They provide not only doctrinal precision but a coherent understanding of the Christian faith as a whole.

  • An Invitation to Learn

Whether you are exploring Christianity for the first time or have spent years in a Reformed church, we invite you to read the Westminster Confession and Catechisms for yourself. Our Elders would be glad to answer your questions, and our membership and discipleship classes are designed to help you understand both the Scriptures and the historic faith our church joyfully confesses.
